The artwork was inspired by Moby Dick by Herman Melville. The novel portrays the ruthless nature of whaling, which became the central theme of this piece. The whale sculpture, painted in gentle and serene colors, emphasizes its uniqueness in contrast to the cruelty inflicted by humans. Inside its mouth, a group of miniature figures attack the whale, yet the creature remains unaffected, indifferent to their efforts. The stark contrast between the massive whale and the tiny figures, along with the whale’s calm, unresponsive demeanor, underscores the enduring strength and resilience of nature.
