Inspired by Hope for the Flowers by Trina Paulus, this artwork reflects on blind ambition and authentic growth. In the story, caterpillars climb a tall pillar without knowing what awaits at the top, driven by competition and social pressure. The 3D artwork is divided into two sections by a book page, each illustrating a different form of accomplishment as a caterpillar.
On the left side, the red caterpillar succeeds in climbing over the others. However, instead of a luxurious reward, it finds only bare tree branches and a shattered red mirror. These elements symbolize the emptiness and consequences of ruthless, independent competition. On the right side, in contrast, a cocoon rests peacefully, waiting to become a butterfly. On the grass below, a caterpillar gazes at its own reflection, representing the ability to self-reflect and recognize true desires. Choosing to become a cocoon illustrates a conscious rejection of blind ambition in favor of inner growth, ultimately leading to genuine transformation and freedom.
